The first trail was short and easy, with a walk to an overlook and a path that edged near a wooded area. Here's the first wildlife sighting of the day:

(The animals were obviously quite used to humans, because they showed no fear of the tourists.)
Ground squirrels (above) make their homes along the edges of the paths. One ran right up to the camera as I was taking the picture (ready for his closeup, perhaps?)
