Back down the dusty washboard road I drove, back to Polebridge for what seemed to be over an hour (since I could only go 5-10 mph at best) My car was acquring a coating of dust from the excursions on this road. I would take several more trips to the park before I finally decided to tent-camp there the final night.
...I'd even brought a mountain bike, but riding the trails knowing there were bears in the woods was a little unsettling. I decided I'd better stay on the road after seeing a very large flattened area of grass in one of the meadows. (Above: Near Lake MacDonald Lodge)
It was hard to leave the cozy North Fork Hostel, and I ended up staying there for several nights. One night we were even able to see a rare August display of the aurora borealis (Northern lights) in the sky.
