I'm not sure if I would want to patronize a shop called Terrible's, but apparently the owners were counting on the public's having a healthy sense of humor. :)

A couple exits later I was on the historic Old Rt. 66, driving through more arid desert terrain ("sobering" as one book describes it). If this area seems vaguely familiar, that's because "The Grapes of Wrath" was filmed in this general locale, to capture the stark Dust Bowl atmosphere of the story.

Cholla cacti on a hill in front of a mountain peak. This area seems vaguely familiar, too; maybe some old Westerns were filmed here.
