Towards late afternoon, I drove back to the Delicate Arch trail and did the long uphill hike again. This is a view from near the end of the trail; a window in the cliff wall about 8 feet above the trail (you have to climb up the cliff to see it) offers a peekaboo view of the arch.

The photos above make it seem deceptively solitary, but in fact this is the typical scene around Delicate Arch. People from all over the world come to visit this landmark -- often sitting for hours in the natural ampitheater just taking in the view.


The return trip was, thankfully, mostly downhill -- and the sunset turned out to be the one of the most beautiful I had ever seen on this trip.
